Dandruff (Pityriasis capitis) is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Dandruff is sometimes caused by frequent exposure to extreme heat and cold. It is marked by itching and flaking of the skin on our scalp.

Dandruff causes irritation and itching
The main reason for this condition is due to more sweating in the hair follicles and also infection same time. Best way to prevent is to have good hygiene for the hair that can be achieved by regular bathing of hair and also using anti dandruff shampoo.

Excess of use of some medicines may also cause the irritation and thereby causing the dandruff.

CAUSES OF DANDRUFF:

Not enough hair brushing – slightly higher risk of having dandruff – this is because they are not aiding the shedding of skin that combing/brushing provides.

A yeast-like fungus (malassezia): Malassezia is a fungus that lives on everyones’s scalp without causing problems. But sometimes it grows out of control, feeding on the oils secreted by your hair follicles. This can irritate the skin on your scalp and cause more skin cells to grow. The extra skin cells die and fall off, clumping together with oil from our hair and scalp, making them appear white & flaky

Dry skin – people with dry skin tend to get dandruff more often. Winter cold air, combined with overheated rooms is a common cause of itchy, flaking skin. dry skin tend to have small flakes of dandruff; which are not oily.

Seborrheic dermatitis (irritated, oily skin) – The patient will have red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. this affects not only our scalp but also other areas rich in oil glands

Not enough shampooing – If you don’t regularly wash your hair, oils and skin cells from your scalp can build up, causing dandruff.-

Certain skin conditions – People with psoriasis(silvery scales), eczema and some other skin disorders tend to get dandruff much more frequently than other people.

Some illnesses – Adults with Parkinson’s disease and some other neurological illnesses are more prone to having dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Patients recovering from heart attacks and strokes, and some people with weak immune systems may have dandruff more often than other people.

Reaction to hair/skin care products – Some people react to some hair care products with a red, itchy, scaling scalp.

Diet – lack of zinc, B vitamins, and some types of fats are more prone to dandruf

Mental stress – stress and many skin problems are inter related.

HIV – these persons are prone to many skin conditions

SYMPTOMS:

1. There are white/grey flakes of skin on the scalp, and in the person’s hair

2.Flakes may be oily looking

3. Head may feel tight and itchy

4. Head may feel tingly

5. Head may feel sore

6.Red, flaky, greasy patches of skin in adults

7.Crusting and scaling rash on scalp in babies

Scaling can occur anywhere on the scalp, in the hair, on the eyebrows, the beard and can spread to the neck and shoulders.

MANAGEMENT:

1.Proper shampooing

2.Proper diet

3. Avoid stress factors

4. Follow the physcians guide

All i wanted to know is what education level is needed to get a job as a medical billing specialist in new york state. I mean the public hospitals in New york. The government funded ones. Like the Methodist Hospital in New York City

More than likely you’ll need a medical billing specialist certificate. This is obtained after completing a medical billing program or medical billing courses from an accredited medical billing school online or on a college campus. Then you would take an exam from an accreditation agency to get your certificate. Nurse Kindheart

I was wondering how long is the typical Medical billing course?
and What is the pay scale for people who’s career is Medical Billing.
And if it is a hard course or not. thanks.

About two months. If you work in an office about $10 an hour. If you recruit your own clients and do electronic claims submission, it can be 7-14% of what you bring in for the doctor. It’s not a difficult course.

I wanted to know the best way of going about getting my foot in the door of the medical or insurance billing/ coding field? I’m from CA and have a felony (drug) so I wanted to know if that would be a problem. Also if anyone has any info on the annual income it brings in?

I would advise you to look into training classes at academic colleges. That is what I did. I went to a business/technical school and now I work in the billing/coding profession. It took me a total of about 9 months to finish my courses. I wouldn’t think having a felony would be a problem as long as it has been a few years without any charges. Although I am not the one going to be hiring you and everyone feels different. Annual income is going to vary depending on the city you live in and the cost of living. Like CA is going to pay more than TN is going to pay.

I will graduate from a medical billing and coding program this May and will be starting my search for a job before then. Can anyone tell me what job duties may be included in this career? Should I expect to work in the front helping patients or will I strictly code?

It depends. Since you don’t have any experience, which I assume you don’t, I highly doubt you’ll get a job strictly coding. From my experience I can tell you that most of your duties will be dealing with claims and insurance. As far as working in the front helping patients that depends on where u work and if there isn’t somewhere there that already does that. But if u do you’ll probably give out paperwork to fill out, take copays, make copies, and such things. I can go on and on, but u may want to try to search for jobs and just look at the job descriptions, that might help. It took me a year to find a job after I graduated…Good Luck!!

If you’ve wanted a career in the medical field but didn’t want to go through the schooling to be a nurse or doctor then a medical coding position could be perfect for you.

Medical coders are just one part of a group of medical field professionals who don’t work directly with patients. Medical billers, secretaries, claims processors and coders have this in common. For medical patients, detailed records and files are kept that trace their visits, any surgeries or procedures, problems, diseases, shots, diagnoses, etc. There is a uniform code that creates a standard for the reporting of medical records – medical coders are responsible for coding patients’ information for insurance purposes. There are coding books available and now there are a lot of things that can be done online. In many cases medical billing software or medical office software has capabilities to code and help with coding.

There are no formal education requirements for medical coders. However, most medical coders enter with associate degrees. Some college classes in biology, anatomy and life sciences are helpful. Good computer skills are a must because the work might involve using medical billing software, medical office software or medical management software. There is no standardized version of medical billing software; there are many different variations of medical management software and medical office software so specific skills in any one program aren’t required, but competence with computers is necessary. Although there are no required education requirements, there are certain certifications that are desirable. Some employers prefer to higher candidates who are Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT). To be come registered with RHIT they must earn a 2 year associates degree from a school that’s accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education. Candidates then also must pass a test given by the American Health Information Management Association. Doing all of this isn’t required, but being registered with RHIT is huge plus for employers and with the way the employment is growing is almost certain to guarantee employment.

Here are some key points from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook:

Employment is expected to grow much faster than average.

Job prospects should be very good; technicians with a strong background in medical coding will be in particularly high demand.

Entrants usually have an associate degree; courses include anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, statistics, and computer science.

This is one of the few health occupations in which there is little or no direct contact with patients.

Medical coders can expect to work regularly scheduled 40 hour weeks. There are opportunities at hospitals and certain clinics that remain open during all hours may have round the clock shifts available. Hospitals and clinics are some of larger places offering employment, but large and small private medical practices are also places that need medical coders. There are also some home-based and small business opportunities for medical billing and medical coding. In these smaller settings, utilizing medical billing software, medical management software and medical office software helps a small workforce take on a big load. Median earnings for this type of position are about $26,000 a year. It’s respectable for an entry level medical field position.

The job outlook is excellent and there are a lot of opportunities to grow and move up in a medical coding.

I’m a CPC, and I currently work full-time. I am looking to partner with someone who already has a medical billing business that is homebased, or someone willing to hire me to work from home. I would be interested in part time at first, but if it works out better than the job I have now, I may do it full-time! Serious answers only, I want to stay in this field, and I have looked online many times. Thanks!

Not many legit work at home jobs as it is, let alone, medical billing or coder :) Please be very cautious if someone contacts you and wants to partner up to pursue such an endeavor as no one really knows the motivation behind such as offer.

As North America’s population ages and as more disabilities and illnesses are better diagnosed and cared for, a wide range of quality durable medical equipment is now available.

This is perhaps the most important development in recent years for millions of people. Rather than doing without critically important medical supplies or “making do” with available wheel chairs, mobility aids, bathroom safety equipment, respiratory equipment and more, people and their health care professionals can shop from a wide variety of readily available equipment.

Online shopping makes finding even the most hard-to-locate medical equipment a task that only takes minutes. Not only can you find EXACTLY what your doctor recommended, you can get it at a better price, and with a quality that will last you for years. This last point may be the most important. Having high quality supplies or equipment means your investment will serve you well for years, decades, even for the rest of your life.

If you or someone you love has an illness, disability, or condition that requires assistance, having “professional” level equipment at a competitive price is essential. The prices are reduced dramatically because you are getting the medical equipment drop shipped from the manufacturer.

With so many choices, it’s important to know how to shop to get the best and most appropriate deals in medical supplies.

Looking for a wheelchair? Your doctor or health care professional probably prescribed a wheelchair for you. But unlike medicine, the prescription doesn’t usually tell you the specific brand and model of wheelchair you need. The doctor’s advice is simply “get a wheelchair.”

Usually a good wheelchair provider will take time to find out just what your needs and requirements are in terms of mobility, seating.

Perhaps you’re in the market for one or more mobility aids. There is a very large and growing assortment of aids that give you amazing choices to help with movement and daily tasks. There are electric and power scooters, walking and quad canes, rollators, walkers and other mobility equipment.

Browsing online can give you a quick and far ranging idea of the many possibilities that are available to you. Your limited mobility may not be near as big a limiting factor as you previously thought.

You may be in the market for respiratory equipment. This is a very large and growing market for equipment providers. These days you can find a large selection of new equipment. If you expect to use respiratory equipment for many years, investing in new, quality pieces will be your best bet.

Keep in the mind the corner medical supply house or drugstore in your neighborhood isn’t your only and probably not your best place to get medical supplies. You’ll save a lot of money and get a much better “fit” if you look online first to for your many and impressive options.
