While the most common route to becoming a Radiologic Technologist is an associates degree, a bachelor’s degree can be a smart option for those who are looking for specific types of positions within the context of medical imaging. Specifically, if you want to be a competitive job candidate for a supervisory position or to become a trainer, a bachelors degree will be a more appropriate option. In addition, if you have been working in the field as a Radiologic Technologist and have decided you want to pursue a job as a Radiologist Assistant, a bachelors degree is the next step in your education.

A bachelors degree in radiology is a significantly more robust education than an associates degree and there are different types of programs available depending on your career goals. Some programs focus on managerial skills, while others focus on advanced imaging modalities or interventional radiology procedures. The following are samples of courses you might expect to take during a radiology bachelors degree program:

- Principles of Quality Management in Medical Imaging
- Advanced Patient Care Issues
- Issues & Trends In Healthcare
- Medical Imaging in the Digital Environment
- Case Studies in Medical Imaging
- Radiology Management Series
- Physics & Instrumentation in Computed Tomography
- Principles of Mammography & Case Studies
- Clinical Aspects of Magnetic Resonance
- Advanced Imaging Modalities (Choose your area of specialization)

Those who have completed a bachelors degree will be more competitive job applicants for positions such as Diagnostic Imaging Director, Lead Radiologic Technologist, or Radiology Training Specialist. Some vocational schools and colleges may also find a bachelors degree in conjunction with proven work experience to be a sufficient level of education for these instructional positions.

A relatively new career path in the radiology community is the Radiologist Assistant (R.A.). This is the most senior level position one can pursue short of being an actual Radiologist M.D. The position requires completion of a masters degree and also has its own certification standards through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Many of the bachelors and masters programs offer hybrid programs in which most of the course work can be completed online, with the clinical requirements being carried out at a local facility under the supervision of an appointed radiology professional. A bachelors degree is a necessary step on the path to becoming an R.A.

If you are thinking of taking your education to the next level, a bachelors degree is a smart option. Whether you want to become a supervisor or simply make yourself stand above the rest, a radiology bachelors degree could be a smart option.

I’ve got medical doctor degree since 2003,May.I have about 3 years experiences as a medical officer at Yangon General Hospital. Before i join for USMLE,i want to be a medical assistant for my living.I am a permanent resident at LA.

In California, to be a medical assistant, you only have to have a high school diploma and a few months of extra training at a vocational school. If you are a physician, your level of education is WAY to high to be working as a medical assistant. Why wouldn’t you to try to become licensed as a doctor in the United States?
If you go on the Medical Board of California website and enter “International Graduate,” into the search engine, you can get a form for becoming licensed or gaining additional training/supervision here.
At the VERY LEAST, with your training, you should try to be a Physician Assistant (P.A.) or a Certified Nurse Practitioner (N.P.) Then you can work almost as you would if you were a licensed physician; you just have to have a physician “supervising” you. There is more information on the Medical Board website. I encourage you to use the skills and training that you have…Good luck!

Has anyone here ever done an Online College for a degree? I am currently at Kent State and going to be doing a Medical Billing Certificate Program in the Summer. But i’d also like to get a dental assistant degree as well. At the college i am currently at they do not offer it.
I also heard that some Dentist Offices just train assistants on the spot?
Thanks in advance

The only fully online dental assisting program I am aware of is at Monroe Community College in New York. They offer a one-year certificate in Dental Assisting:http://www.monroecc.edu/etsdbs/MCCatPub.…
Also, here’s a listing of some campus based programs around the nation: http://www.collegeanduniversity.net/coll…
My blog also lists some other health-related programs:http://www.online-college-blog.com

that their no jobs out here.

In all honesty, you need to make sure you use spell check and have someone profreed your resume and cover letter for grammatical errors before sending it out. I realize that we don’t use our “thesis” grammar on yahoo answers, but nothing kills a good applicant quicker than a glaring grammar or spelling error on a job application, resume, or cover letter.
Now, with having a Associates in Medical Assisting and not just a certificate, I would focus my job search on large practices of at least 6 or 8 doctors and NPs/PAs, instead of a single doctor or small practice. Also, ignore the person that said you needed a Bachelors…you know that degree is not available for medical assisting, too bad they didn’t before posting it!
You’re more likely to be paid more and the practice manager will appreciate your degree over a certificate if it comes down to you and someone else with similar experiences. Best wishes!

is there a real difference between these two? and why are some medical assistant programs 4 months and others are two years? I am thinking about doing an online program at us career institute which takes about 4-6 months, but i would like all the information i can get regarding what certificate i need after graduating.

The true “certified” means you have taken & passed the national MA exam. Now, between the 2 programs; one gives you a “certificate” of completion (but you can not call yourself a “certified MA” with out passing the exam) and the other gives you the educational degree called an Associates (that’s why it takes longer; you have to do the requirements for an academic degree). If you plan to go further in life, say to a bachelors; an associates is part of the way there. A certificate program is what it is–no advancement is possible with those classes.

I am going to school and taking the Medical Laboratory Technician program and I was just wondering if i could get a job as a Veterinarian Technician with that specific degree. Or is there other things I would have to do?

It depends on the clinic. Most clinics nowadays only hire RVT (registered vet techs), this requires going to an AVMA accredited tech school. Tech school is two years long and teaches skills specific to vet clinics.
There are some clinics out there that will hire people to work as techs, but because they’d have to train you, you won’t make as much and those jobs are few and far between. Usually the clincs that hire those people are smaller ones and they’d probably use you as a kennel employee as well, so you’d be in charge of cleaning up after all the animals and daily cleaning and maintence around the clinic in general.

What is the best and the fastest way for a respiratory therapist with an assosiate degree to become a physician assistant or a nurse practitioner? Any accelerated program and or online

There are no fast or on line or accelerated programs to either of these professions, just like there are none in med school. There is too much at stake & too much hands-on learning. No way to accelerate learning medicine.
For the PA route, you will need to get either a bachelors degree in a science field and apply to a masters PA program OR get accepted into a bachelors degree PA program. You should have the required medical experience as a RT. Contact the aapa.org for details.
The nursing may take you longer–you will need a bachelors of science in nursing (you may get credit for the general ed classes with the AS), you will probably then have to work as a nurse for a bit & then apply into the NP programs (masters/doctorate).
